Rev. Campbell is a member of the Community Shares advisory board. With these special guests, the meeting promises to be insightful and inspiring.
The annual meeting is Wednesday, June 19 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 2747 Fairmount Blvd. in Cleveland Heights. A reception of hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will begin at 6 p.m. in Tucker Hall, and the program, featuring Mayor and Rev. Campbell, will begin at 7 p.m. All are welcome, and tickets for the annual meeting are $8 in advance and $10 at the door.
The annual meeting also presents an opportunity to learn more about Community Shares, the only fundraising federation in Cleveland with a focus on social
justice. Community Shares raises funds for 31 local nonprofit organizations including the Cleveland Lesbian-Gay Center, the ACLU, Cleveland Public Theatre, and Amistad Development Corporation, through workplace giving campaigns. Employees at over 150 work sites in greater Cleveland make valuable donations through payroll deduction to Community Shares and its member organizations.
Last year, Community Shares raised over $860,000 for social justice organizations, topping the previous year's campaign total by more than 5%.
Community Shares member organizations are working to find and implement long-term solutions to social justice issues like poverty, domestic violence, health care, discrimination, civil rights abuses and intolerance. The organizations address a variety of social justice issues, but they all share a commitment to advocacy.
Money raised by Community Shares is put to work locally to strengthen the Cleveland area. Community Shares makes it easy for people to support important community programs. When making a donation through a Community Shares campaign, donors decide where their money goes by pledging directly to Community Shares or designating the organizations that will receive their gift.
Call 216-371-0209 or visit www.communityshares.org with questions about Community Shares or the 2002 annual meeting.
Summer Paris is communications and development assistant for Greater Cleveland Community Shares.
